✈️ My Travel Experience

Have you ever dreamed of a place where history and the ocean meet? Cartagena is a mandatory stop for anyone visiting Colombia. The city has a magical atmosphere with its colorful streets and amazing food. The old city is a favorite destination because of its history and beautiful sunsets.

When I was a child, I used to dream about visiting Cartagena, the famous walled city on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. Last year, my dream finally came true. I checked in at a small but charming hotel near the historic center, and right away, I felt amazed by the colorful colonial buildings all around me. The first morning, I walked around the old city and admired the ancient walls and vibrant street art. I also went up to Castillo San Felipe, where I looked out at the breathtaking view of the Caribbean Sea. In the evenings, I used to sit down at one of the cozy cafes in Getsemani and watch the locals go by. I tried local dishes like arepas de huevo and fresh ceviche, and they completely blew my mind. It was truly one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life.

📍 Where to Go – Places to Visit

1. Castillo San Felipe de Barajas

This landmark has always stood out as the most iconic fortress in all of Latin America. You can walk around the tunnels and enjoy the spectacular view of the city and the Caribbean Sea. You must go up to the top — the panorama will take your breath away. Tourists from all over the world are drawn to its impressive military architecture and historical charm.

2. The Walled City (Ciudad Amurallada)

You must explore this area — it is surrounded by cozy cafés, colorful buildings, and artisan shops. You could sit down on one of the plazas and simply take in the vibrant bohemian atmosphere. You should walk around the walls at sunset — the golden light over the Caribbean is absolutely unforgettable.

🎯 What to Do – Activities

• You should try the typical food like arepas de huevo, ceviche, and patacones. The local flavors will blow your mind!
• You can get on a boat to visit the Islas del Rosario — a group of stunning coral islands with crystal-clear waters.
• If you visit the local shops in the old city, you might find out about beautiful emeralds and handmade crafts. (First Conditional)
• If you walk on the beach at night, you feel very relaxed and peaceful. (Zero Conditional)

💡 Travel Tips

1. You have to wear sunscreen every day — Cartagena is very hot and sunny all year round.

2. You must drink a lot of water to stay hydrated, especially when you explore the city on foot.

3. You should wear comfortable walking shoes to go out and explore the cobblestone streets of the old city.

4. You might want to look for a certified guide to learn more about the history of Cartagena's architecture and legends.
